Low genetic characteristics let assume that the central Veltliner lead variety Roter Veltliner is a grandparent. DNA analyses performed in 1998 by the Austrian biologist Dr. Ferdinand Regner identified the Traminer as the parent. In 2000 a very old vine was discovered in the Burgenland community of St. Georgen. The previously unknown variety was called St. Georgen and is the second parent after DNA analyses carried out by Regner in 2007. Whether father or mother variety, however, remains open. However, the genes or characteristics of St. Georgen have become much more prevalent than those of Traminers.
