Mother variety

In a new breeding of grape variety, the parentage (parentage) is indicated in the form of "New Variety = Mother Variety x Father Variety". Mother Variety is the first mentioned grape variety, for example, "Zweigelt = St. Laurent (Mother) x Blaufränkisch (Father)". See also under crossing direction and crossing.
