Cardinal

The red grape variety is a new breeding between Ribier (Alphonse Lavallée) x Queen of the Vineyards. Synonyms are Apostoliatiko, Cardenal, Cardinal Crveni, Francesa, G 10-30, Karaburnu Rannii, Cardinal and Rannii Carabournu. The parentage Ahmeur Bou Ahmeur (Flame Tokay) x Ribier given in the breeding list turned out to be false in DNA analyses carried out in 2009. The cross was made in 1943 in California by Elmer Snyder and F. Harmon. It was a crossing partner of the new varieties Alba, Arkadia, Blanc Du Bois, Carina (2), Carla, Corredera, Diana (2), Dunav, Flame Seedless, Isa, Kishmish Luchistyi, Ora, Prima (1), Sugraone, Zagore and Zhemchuzhina Oskhi. An early maturing mutation is Cardinal Early.
