The red grape variety is a new breed between Cardinal x Alphonse Lavallée, which was confirmed by DNA analyses conducted in 2013. The crossing took place in 1958 in France by the breeder Paul Truel (1924-2014) at the Domaine de Vassal (a branch of INRA). The berries of the early ripening vine have an aromatic taste. It is mainly used as a table grape. It is grown in tiny amounts in the Languedoc-Roussillon area. In 2016, 0.1 hectares of vineyard area were reported (Statistics Kym Anderson).
