Producer description of "Torre Rosazza"

The traditional winery is located in the municipality of Manzano in the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Its history goes back to the 16th century. The noble Antinori family owned a large agricultural estate and in the 17th century had the medieval tower restored and the villa built as a residence, which is now the main building. Afterwards, the estate became the property of the De Marchi family. During the Second World War (1939-1945), it was the scene of battles between the German army of occupation and the Italian Resistance. Claudio Flaborea and Giovanni Tomadoni are responsible for the vineyards, Donato Lanati for the cellar technology.

The total estate covers 100 hectares, 80 of which are planted with vines. The white wine varieties Friulano (Sauvignonasse), Pinot Grigio (Pinot Gris), Ribolla Gialla, Verduzzo Friulano, Chardonnay, Traminer and Sauvignon (Sauvignon Blanc) are cultivated, as well as the red wine varieties Schioppettino, Pignolo, Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir), Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Only physically ripe and healthy grapes are harvested by hand. The wines are fermented at a low temperature to preserve the aromatic characteristics and are stored for a long time on the fine lees. They are aged in 225-300 litre wooden barrels or stainless steel tanks, depending on the type of wine. The product range includes DOCG Colli Orientali del Friuli and DOC Friuli Grave wines. A spumante is also produced.
