Ribolla Gialla

The white grape variety originates from the border region Italy/Slovenia. Synonyms are Avola, Erbula, Gargania, Garganica, Rabola, Rabiola, Rebolla, Ribolla Bianca, Ribolla Gialla di Rosazzo, Ribolla di Rosazzo and Ribuèle (Italy); Jarbola, Jerbula, Ribola Bijela (Croatia); Garganija, Garganja, Grganc, Rebula, Rebula Bela, Teran Bijeli, Zelena Rebula (Slovenia). According to DNA analyses carried out in 2020, it originates from a presumably natural cross between unknown parent variety x Gouais Blanc. However, this is based on only 12 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). Despite seemingly suggestive synonyms or morphological similarities, it should not be confused with the varieties Garganega, Pignoletto (Ribolla Riminese), Prosecco Lungo (Ribolla Spizade) or Robola. There is no relationship with the red variety Schioppettino (Ribolla Nera).
