The company "Albert Mathier & Söhne" is located in the municipality of Salquenen (Salgesch) in the Swiss canton of Valais. It was founded in 1928 by Albert Mathier. Today, the company is run by Amédée Mathier, the third generation. The company's own vineyards cover 30 hectares with over 300,000 vines. They are planted with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Merlot, Syrah, St. Laurent, Cabernet Franc and Cornalin, as well as the white wine varieties Pinot Blanc, Petite Arvine (Arvine), Ermitage (Marsanne), Heida (Savagnin Blanc = Traminer), Johannisberg (Silvaner) and Muscat (Muscat Blanc). Depending on the type of wine, the wines are matured in stainless steel, wooden barrels, barrique or amphora. The product range includes the Amphore, Rhoneblut (from Pinot Noir), Domaine de Ravoire (from special vineyards), Vinum Lignum (aged in barrique) and Valais specialities lines. The latter include Dôle, Flétri and Strohwein (sweet wines made from dried grapes), as well as Oeil de perdrix (rosé wine). On part of the land in the Pfyn-Finges Nature Park, certified organic viticulture is practised according to the rules of Bio Suisse. The wines from there are Forestier and Parkwein. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines and noble brandies (Marc de Lie = yeast, Marc de Dôle = marc, Tschatscha Eau de Lie d'Amphore = marc) are also produced.
