Name (also bottle sickness) for an unpleasant odour that can occur after bottling or is associated with this process. The wine is stirred up by mechanical stress and comes into contact with oxygen from the air. In order to counteract oxidative processes in the wine, sulphur dioxide is therefore added as an antioxidant, which can be noticeable through a corresponding odour.
