In most cases, they are also active as authors on the topics of food and drink or lifestyle (see under wine with food). The best-known members of the guild exert a significant influence on purchasing behaviour. A well-rated wine with at least 90 out of 100 points from US critic Robert M. Parker commands significantly higher prices. The ratings of star critics even influence wine styles and initiate certain trends in winemaking.
