Producer description of "Bodega Mustiguillo"

The winery is located in the municipality of Utiel in the Spanish DO area of Utiel-Requena in the Spanish region of Valenciana. In 1972, the "Finca El Terrerazo" was acquired by the Sarrión family of builders, but for decades it was exclusively used for agriculture and cattle breeding. It was not until 1999 that the decision was made to produce quality wines. Toni Sarrión worked in various industries before realising his dream of making wine and attending the viticulture school in Requena. The "Finca Terrerazo" area was classified as the highest Spanish wine quality level Vino de Pago in 2010.

Bodega Mustiguillo - Gebäude

The vineyards cover 87 hectares of vines between 800 and 900 metres above sea level on sandy clay soils with limestone subsoil. They are planted with the red wine varieties Bobal with particularly small grapes from own breeding (two thirds of the area), Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Henri Bouschet), as well as the white wine variety Merseguera. The vineyards are cultivated according to the rules of organic viticulture, which have been certified since 2007. The phases of the moon are taken into account in various operations. Fertilisation is done exclusively with organic manure (green cuttings). After the manual grape harvest, the grapes are gently processed. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with the vineyard's own yeasts, after which the wines are matured in French oak barrels.
