Perle Noire

The red grape variety is an interspecific new variety between Muscat d'Hamburg x Seyve Villard 12-358 (Seibel 6468 x Subéreux). DNA analyses carried out in 2016 revealed that the Panse de Provence (Beba) indicated as the parent variety in the breeding list was incorrect. Synonyms are Seyve-Villard 20-347 and SV 20-347, which contain genes from Vitis labrusca, Vitis lincecumii, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in France by Bertille Seyve (1864-1939) at the Seyve-Villard vineyard in Saint-Vallier (Drôme). The vine is suitable for pressing and table grape. It was a crossing partner of the new Lanka and Muscat Bleu varieties. The vine is no longer important; no stocks were reported in 2010 (Kym Anderson).
