Cuvée de Prestige

Common name (also Prestige Cuvée or Cuvée Spéciale) for the top product of a Champagne house. Such a champagne comes from particularly large vintages and has usually been stored or matured on the yeast for many years. These brands are often up to five times more expensive than the standard products of the houses. Often creatively named, these champagnes were often created and/or named for a famous personality or specially created after a significant event. Well-known Cuvée de Prestiges from renowned Champagne companies are:

Cuvée de Prestige - Dom Perignon, Henriot, Krug, Perrier-Jouet, Ruinart

Products from a single and usually also exclusive vineyard are called mono-cuvée. A list of other Champagne houses can be found under the keyword Champagne.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
