The term for a champagne(sparkling wine) that is produced from grapes from a single and usually exclusive vineyard of special quality with, for example, very old vines or a particular type of soil with a special microclimate. It is usually only produced in very small quantities as vintage champagne (millésime).

These include the champagne brands Clos du Mesnil from Krug (1), Clos des Goisses from Philipponnat (2), Rare from Piper Heidsieck (3) and Vieilles Vignes Francaises from Bollinger (4), of which only 2,000 bottles are produced each year. The designation for the best product of a champagne house is Cuvée de Prestige. See also under Cuvée.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
