The winery (formerly Finca la Solana = sunny place) is located in the municipality of Malagón (province of Ciudad Real) in the Spanish region of Castilla-La Mancha. It was founded in 1997 by the well-known Arzuaga Group. The estate covers 150 hectares of land, where olives are also grown. The estate is designed like a French château. The vineyards are located around the bodega and cover 58 hectares of vines at an average altitude of 650 metres above sea level on mineral-rich soils, mainly silicon with limestone residues. They are planted with the leading variety Cencibel (Tempranillo), as well as smaller proportions of Syrah and Petit Verdot. The planting density is between 1,300 and 3,000 vines/hectare, with a yield of 10,000 kg/ha. After five years of development work, the first "Pago Florentino" was marketed in 2002. The area was then classified as the highest Spanish wine quality level, Vino de Pago, in 2009. Care is taken to ensure that only physiologically ripe grapes are harvested. Alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation and ageing take place in French and American barrique barrels. The wines contain at least 90% Cencibel.
