The winery is located in the municipality of Kallstadt (Mittelhaardt-Deutsche Weinstraße area) in the German wine-growing region of Pfalz. The family has been based here since the 17th century. The winery is run by Karola Bender-Haaß and Dipl. Ing. Otto Haaß. The vineyards cover nine hectares of vines in the Kobnert, Kreidkeller, Saumagen and Steinacker (Kallsstadt), and Himmelreich (Herxheim) sites. They are 65% planted with the white wine varieties Riesling (one third), Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Silvaner and Scheurebe, and 35% with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, St. Laurent, Pinot Meunier, Regent and Dornfelder. Parallel to the restructuring of the varietal range, the cultivation of the individual vines has been increasingly intensified. The grape quality of each individual vine is considered important. The grapes are harvested with selective hand-picking, gently pressed and the must fermented at controlled temperatures. The white wines are matured in stainless steel tanks, the red wines in large wooden barrels and partly in barriques. In years when the weather is suitable, Trockenbeerenauslese wines are also produced. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines, brandy, grape juice, grape seed oil and wine vinegar are also produced.
