Minho

IGP area (formerly Rios do Minho) for country wines in the province of Minho in the north of Portugal. It is identical in area to the Vinho Verde DOC area. The mainly produced, mostly light white wines are characterised by freshness and piquant acidity. They are produced from the varieties Alvarinho, Arinto, Avesso, Azal Branco, Batoca, Borraçal, Chardonnay, Loureiro, Rabo de Ovelha, Riesling and Trajadura. The red wines are made from the Azal Tinto (Amaral), Brancelhão (Alvarelhão), Cabernet Sauvignon, Espadeiro, Merlot, Padeiro, Pedral and Vinhão varieties.
