The red grape variety (also Ravat 262) is an interspecific new breeding between Seibel 8365 x Pinot Noir. It contains genes from Vitis labrusca, Vitis lincecumii, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in France by the private breeder Jean François Ravat (+1940) in the early 1930s. It is cultivated on the North American east coast. The variety was a crossing partner in the new variety Marquette. In 2016, only one hectare of vineyard was still designated in the Yonne department (north-western Burgundy) (Kym Anderson statistics).
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
