Pollux

The white grape variety (also Geilweilerhof B 6-18) is an interspecific new variety between Oberlin S.P.(Oberlin Noir) x Foster's White Seedling. The name is derived from a star of the constellation Gemini. It contains genes from Vitis riparia and Vitis vinifera. With the same parents the new breed Castor was created. The hybrid was crossed in 1944 by the breeder Dr. Bernhard Husfeld (1900-1970) at the Rebenzüchtungs-Anstalt Geilweilerhof in Siebeldingen (Pfalz). Plant variety protection was granted in 1982. The vine is resistant to fungal diseases and is considered a PIWI variety. It produces a greenish-yellow wine rich in extracts with strawberry aroma or Foxton. In 2016, no stocks were recorded (statistics Kym Anderson).
