The state in Southeast Asia with the capital Vientiane borders China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar. The uniformly tropical, warm and humid climate is divided into two seasons by the monsoon. From November to April, continental northeast winds cause the somewhat cooler dry season. From May to October, the summer or southwest monsoon prevails with heavy rainfall and high humidity. The preferred alcoholic beverage is rice wine. Since the 1990s, a few producers have also been cultivating wine. The production of table grapes has a long tradition here.
