The winery is located in the municipality of Joching-Weißenkirchen in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Wachau. Its origins go back to a reading farm built by the famous master builder Jakob Prandtauer (1658-1726) in 1696. The "Prandtauerhof" restaurant is attached. The winery is run by Karl Holzapfel. The vineyards cover 14 hectares of vines in the Achleiten, Klaus, Kollmitz, Vorderseiber and Weitenberg vineyards.

They are 95% planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Grüner Veltliner and Pinot Blanc, with the remainder planted with the red wine varieties Zweigelt and St. Laurent. The vineyards are cultivated using traditional methods. Quality criteria are strict yield restrictions and selective hand-picking in several passes. The wines are fermented at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks and matured for a long time on the fine lees . Premium wines are various Vinea wines (Grüner Veltliner and Riesling). The winery is a member of Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus and Quinta Essentia.
