The winery is located in the municipality of Essingen (Südliche Weinstraße area) in the German wine-growing region of Pfalz. It is run by Bernd Hertel and Mario Hermes. The vineyards are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Müller-Thurgau, Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, Blauer Portugieser, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Dorsa. Quality criteria in the vineyard are the removal of double shoots at budbreak, thinning out of up to 50% of the grapes and selective hand harvesting. The grapes are processed immediately and pressed gently. The wines are classified into the four characters "Original", "Refined", "Finished" and "In Extenso". The white wines are matured reductively in stainless steel tanks. The red wines are preferably matured in large wooden barrels made of Palatinate oak, and some red wines made of Cabernet Sauvignon are also matured for several years in barriques. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines and sparkling wines are also produced.
