Coccalona Nera

The red grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Blauer Hudler, Blaue Rohrtraube, Blaurote Rohrtraube, Ciollona Nera, Coccolona Nera, Orsolina, Rheintaler, Rheinwelsch, Rothblaue Rohrtraube, Wullewälscher and Zottelwälscher. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2020, it originates from a presumably natural cross between Bottagera False x unknown father variety. Nothing is known about a possible genetic relationship to the white variety Coccalona Bianca. The vine was a parent of the Barbera, Durasa, Lambrusco di Fiorano, Parmesana, Sgavetta, Uva Crova, Vespolina and Welschriesling varieties. It is used as a wine grape. No stock was recorded in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
