The red grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Blauer Hudler, Blaue Rohrtraube, Blaurote Rohrtraube, Ciollona Nera, Coccolona Nera, Orsolina, Rheintaler, Rheinwelsch, Rothblaue Rohrtraube, Wullewälscher and Zottelwälscher. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2020, it originates from a presumably natural cross between Bottagera False x unknown partner. Nothing is known about a possible genetic relationship to the white variety Coccalona Bianca. The vine was a parent of the varieties Barbera, Lambrusco di Fiorano, Parmesana, Sgavetta, Uva Crova, Vespolina and Welschriesling. It is used as a wine grape. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
