The red grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Brugnola, Lambrusa, Lambrusco del Pellegrino, Lambrusco del Pellegrino, Lambrusco Fiorano, Lambruscone, Lambruscone a Raspo Rosso, Lambrusco Oliva Grosso and Prugnola. It is named after the municipality of Fiorano in the province of Modena in the Emilia-Romagna region. According to DNA analyses, it comes from a presumably natural cross between Coccalona Nera x unknown partner. The high-yielding vine yields wines rich in sur. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
