The red grape variety is a new cross between Hadisi x Petit Bouschet according to DNA analyses carried out in 2013. The breeding list indicated Adisi x NO 15-7-1 (Vitis amurensis x Sladky Chernyi = Pinot Noir S.P., so it would be a hybrid. Synonyms are Karmrahiut and Karmraiute. The crossing took place in 1950 by the breeder S. A. Pogosyan in Armenia. The variety is mainly cultivated in the western Armenian region of Armavir. The red-fleshed berries produce a colourful red wine, which is used for sweet dessert wine but is also vinified as a single variety. The variety was a crossing partner for the Charentsi and Nerkarat varieties. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
