In Germany, the legally defined term for a light-coloured rosé wine. The name has nothing to do with the season, but is derived from "Arbst"(Blauer Arbst = mutation of Pinot Noir). It must fulfil the requirements of a quality wine(PDO) or quality sparkling wine. It must come from a single single vineyard from the Ahr, Baden, Franconia, Rheingau, Rheinhessen, Palatinate or Württemberg growing regions. The wine must be blended from a red wine variety (at least 95%) with a maximum of 5% red wine or red wine must of the same variety to improve the colour. Sweetening of the finished wine is only permitted with sweet reserve(grape must) of the same variety.
I have great respect for the scope and quality of the wein.plus encyclopaedia. It is a unique place to go for crisp, sound information on terms from the world of wine.
