The red grape variety is an interspecific new breeding between Blauburger x Klosterneuburg 1189-9-77 (Seyve-Villard 18-402 x Blaufränkisch). It contains genes from Vitis berlandieri, Vitis cinerea, Vitis lincecumii, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in 1970 by Dr. Gertrud Mayer at the Klosterneuburger Weinbauinstitut (Lower Austria). The name was given in honour of the former director of the institute, Wenzel Seifert (1862-1942). The vine is susceptible to grape rot. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
The Wine lexicon helps me to keep up to date and refresh my knowledge. Thank you for this Lexicon that will never end in terms of topicality! That's what makes it so exciting to come back often.
