The winery is located in the municipality of Magliano in Maremma in the south of the Italian region of Tuscany. It was founded in 1998 by the German dentist Nikolaus Buchheim. The landscape here is characterized by old cork oaks, flowering broom and wild olive trees with many species of songbirds and birds of prey. First the rocky, stony soils had to be tilled in laborious work and vines planted. Then a modern cellar was built and the 13th century medieval vaulted cellar under the church of Scansano was restored. Dr. Massimo Albanese is responsible as oenologist.

Poggio Nibbiale - Blick über die Weinberge und Flasche

The vineyards cover 11 hectares of vines between Scansano and Magliano at 300 metres above sea level above the Tyrrhenian Sea with a view of the islands of Giglio, Elba, Monte Christo and the peninsula of Monte Argentario. The red wine varieties Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Montepulciano, Canaiolo Nero and Petit Verdot, as well as the white wine variety Vermentino are cultivated. The environmentally friendly cultivation is carried out according to ICEA certified rules of organic viticulture with yield-reducing, sustainable cultivation methods. This includes, among other things, the renunciation of herbicides and artificial fertilizers.
