The white grape variety is an interspecific new breeding between Athens (Hubbard x Portland) x Emerald Seedless. Synonyms are Marquis Seedless and New York 64.0029.01. It contains genes from Vitis labrusca and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in 1964 by George W. Remaily at the Vine Breeding Institute of Cornell University in Geneva ( New York State) and released in 1996. The frost-hardy variety has a slight foxtone. It is used as table grape. In 2016, one hectare of vineyard was designated in the US state of Ohio (Kym Anderson).
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
