According to DNA analyses carried out in 2007, it is genetically closely related to the varieties Malvasia Bianca Lunga, Malvasia di Lipari (Croat. Malvasija Dubrovacka) and Malvasia Nera di Brindisi. The variety was a crossing partner of the Vega variety.
