Madeleine Angevine

The white grape variety is a new variety between Blanc d'Ambre x Madeleine Royale. The name is derived from the early ripening (22 July is St Magdalene's name day), the second part means "of Anjou". Synonyms are Kossuthtraube (Germany); Chasselas de Talhouet, Magdalene Angevine, Madeleine Celine (France); Maddalena Angevina (Italy); Madlen Anževin, Madlen Anzhuskaya, Madlenka, Magdalena Anzhuskaya, Petrovsky (ex. Yugoslavia); Weißer Äugstler (Switzerland); Korai Magda, Petrovskii (former USSR); Republician (USA).

Crossbreeding

The cross was made in 1857 in France at the Moreau-Robert Vine Breeding Institute. It is an all-female grape variety, which is why it is dependent on cross-fertilisation. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, the Malingre (Précoce de Malingre) indicated in the breeding list as the mother variety turned out to be incorrect.
