The white grape variety is a new breed between Blanc d'Ambre x Madeleine Royale. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, Précoce de Malingre has disproved the maternity indicated in the breeding list. Synonyms are Kossuthtraube (Germany); Chasselas de Talhouet, Magdalene Angevine, Madeleine Celine (France); Maddalena Angevina (Italy); Madlen Anjevin, Madlen Anževin, Madlen Anzhuskaya, Madlenka, Magdalena Anzhuskaya, Petrovsky, Petrovskiy (former. Yugoslavia); Weißer Äugstler (Switzerland); Korai Magda, Madlen Anzhuiskaya, Petrovskii, Petrovskij, Petrovsky (former USSR); Republician (USA). The crossing was carried out in France in 1857 at the Moreau-Robert vine breeding institute. The name is derived from the early ripening (22 July is the name day of St. Magdalene), the second part means "of Anjou".
