Callet Negrella

This red grape variety comes from the Spanish island of Mallorca(Balearic Islands). Synonyms are Callet Cas Concos and Callet Cas Concos Negro. It was discovered in the municipality of Cas Concos by a winegrower and named Callet. However, there was already an independent variety with this name. The name was later changed to Callet Negrella because place names should not be used. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it comes from a presumably natural cross Beba x Girò Sardo. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). A colour mutation gave rise to the white variety Callet Cas Concos Blanco. Callet Negrella was a parent in the two varieties Callet and Manto Negro, which are also cultivated on Mallorca. No stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
