Wine commission agent

Job title for an agent in the purchase and sale of wine who brokers wine, grape must or grapes on a commission basis (4 to 5%) in his own name for the account of a third party. His costs are usually borne half by the buyer and half by the seller. Wine commission agents are also often active at auctions, as the real buyer usually does not want to appear in person. In Germany, there are about 200 full-time wine commission agents who handle more than half of all wine purchases. In France - especially in Bordeaux - courtiers (brokers) play an important role.
