Courtier

Term for the French brokers who act as a link between the vignerons (wine growers) and the négociants (traders). They taste the wines and select those that meet the requirements of specific buyers. They are particularly important in Bordeaux in connection with the subscription or trade of young wines (en primeur). See also under Bordeaux wine trade and wine trade.
