Synonym (also Viuna) for the grape variety Macabeo; see there.
The white grape variety originates from Spain (Middle East hypothesis). Synonyms grouped alphabetically by country are Gredelin, Lardot, Maccabéo, Maccabeu, Ugni Blanc (France); Charas Blanc (California); Macabeu, Subirat, Subirats, Viura, Vuera (Spain). Despite seemingly suggestive synonyms or morphological similarities, it should not be confused with the varieties Alcañón, Trebbiano Toscano (Ugni Blanc) or the genetically similar Xarello. DNA analyses carried out in 2013 revealed a parentage of Hebén x Brustiano Faux (not identical to Brustiano Bianco).
The variety was a crossing partner of the new varieties...

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
