Schütt

Riede (site) in the Austrian wine-growing region of Wachau. The Riede is mentioned in documents as early as 1289, whereby the name refers to the geological formation of this Riede, through which the border of the cadastral communities of Dürnstein and Unterloiben also runs. For this reason, a distinction is made between two areas. The "Dürnsteiner Schütt" vineyard in the west faces southeast and consists of weathered soils with alluvial sand. Only the Riesling variety is cultivated here. To the east lies the "Loibner Schütt" with stands of Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. The south to south-east facing, partly terraced vineyards at 208 to 249 metres above sea level have a slope of up to 52% and cover almost six hectares of vineyards. Deep gneiss weathered material with sandy, stony soils with a low percentage of fine soil and therefore excellent drainage (water drainage) prevails. Shares in the vineyard are held, for example, by the Knoll Emmerich, Tegernseerhof and Urbanushof Paul Stierschneider wineries.
