The winery is located in the municipality of Unterloiben near Dürnstein in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Wachau. Its history goes back over a thousand years, when Emperor Heinrich II (973-1024) gave the Benedictine monastery of Tegernsee "two hectares of land". In 1176, the Tegernsee farm was established, which then served as a reading farm for centuries. The farm and its vineyards were first mentioned in the Tegernsee vineyard register in 1427. At the beginning of the 19th century, the farm passed to the Austrian Empire and decades later became private property. The estate was taken over by Franz and Mathilde Mittelbach in the 1970s. Today, the farm is run by their son Martin.
