The winery is located in the municipality of Unterloiben near Dürnstein in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Wachau. The history goes back over a thousand years, when Emperor Heinrich II (973-1024) gave the Benedictine monastery of Tegernsee "two hectares of land". In 1176, the Tegernsee farm was established, which then served as a reading farm for centuries. The farm and its vineyards were first mentioned in the Tegernsee vineyard register in 1427. Today, the farm is run by their son Martin
