The winery is located next to the municipality of Castellina (province of Siena) in the Italian region of Tuscany. The property is called "Le Fioraie" (flower seller), which goes back to an old legend. A monk had fainted on his days-long hike due to the summer heat and was saved by three girls by pouring red wine into him. A few months later he came back with some other monks and they started to build a church and plant vines. That is why the label includes these three flower girls. The farm was founded in 1954 by the Neri family. Today it is owned by Larissa Karaban, with Michele Neri as manager and winemaker.
The vineyards cover 12 hectares of vines at an altitude of 380 to 420 metres above sea level in the heart of the DOCG Chianti-Classico area. They are mainly planted with the Sangiovese, Colorino del Valdarno and Canaiolo Nero varieties, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Only physiologically ripe and healthy grapes are processed through selective manual harvesting in two stages (vineyard and sorting table). After temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks (100 hl), the wines are aged in concrete barrels (250 hl), in barrels (900 l) ) and in French barriques (250 l).
I have great respect for the scope and quality of the wein.plus encyclopaedia. It is a unique place to go for crisp, sound information on terms from the world of wine.
