The winery is located in the municipality of Wittlich (Bernkastel area) in the German wine-growing region of Mosel. Its roots go back to the 16th century. The farm is managed by Thomas Losen. The vineyards cover 30 hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Rosengärtchen (Neumagen), Würzgarten (Ürzig), Klosterberg (Wehlen), as well as Bottchen, Felsentreppchen, Klosterweg, Lay and Portnersberg (Wittlich). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Kerner, as well as the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Merlot, Dornfelder and Regent, which are cultivated in an environmentally friendly manner. The grapes are selectively hand-picked and processed by whole bunch pressing. The white wines are cold fermented in stainless steel tanks and bottled in spring at the earliest. The red wines are partly matured in barrique barrels but also in stainless steel. In years with suitable weather conditions, an ice wine is also produced. Bottle-fermented Riesling and Pinot Noir rosé sparkling wines are also produced.
I have great respect for the scope and quality of the wein.plus encyclopaedia. It is a unique place to go for crisp, sound information on terms from the world of wine.
