Laska

The red grape variety originates from Austria. Synonyms are Antoniusrebe, Barttraube, Blauer Selenika, Blauer Wälscher, Frühblauer Wälscher, Lasca, Lasca Modrina, Laschka Moder, Lashka, Laska Cseke, Laska Moder, Laska Modrina, Modrina, Nagylany Szoeloe, Varronia Italia and Wälsche Barttraube. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it originates from a presumably natural cross between Gouais Blanc x unknown partner. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see Molecular Genetics). The early-maturing vine produces simple, mild and low-alcohol red wines with a light ruby-red colour. It used to be known in Styria (Austria), Croatia, as well as Baden and Württemberg (Germany). In 2016, however, only a tiny stand of 0.1 hectares was identified in the Etyek-Buda area of Hungary (Kym Anderson).
