The traditional winery is located in the municipality of Röschitz in the north of the Weinviertel wine-growing region (Lower Austria). It has been family-owned since 1724. Today it is run by the three siblings Ewald Gruber (responsible for the cellar after training in Klosterneuburg and practical experience in Australia and New Zealand ), Christian (vineyard) and Maria (marketing, export). The wine tavern "Zum Gruber" is attached. A historical attraction is the "Weber Cellar" with a 200-year-old tree press and sculptures from the history of wine on the cellar walls.
The vineyards cover 68 hectares of vines in the Röschitz vineyards Hinterholz, Hundspoint, Königsberg, Reipersberg, Galgenberg, Lauschen and Mühlberg. Of these, 55 are located around Röschitz (main estate), the rest in Straning/Limberg and in Maissau. They are 70% planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner (main variety with 50%), Riesling, Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Gelber Muskateller and Sauvignon Blanc, and 30% with the red wine varieties Zweigelt (25%), Pinot Noir and St. Laurent. Grapes are also bought in on a large scale. The vineyards are cultivated according to the rules of organic viticulture, which have been certified since the 2016 vintage. These include green manuring, gentle soil cultivation, no herbicides and the promotion of beneficial insects through appropriate plants and trees at the edge of the vineyards.
The Wine lexicon helps me to keep up to date and refresh my knowledge. Thank you for this Lexicon that will never end in terms of topicality! That's what makes it so exciting to come back often.
