Producer description of "Griesel & Compagnie"

The Sekthaus is located in the municipality of Bensheim in the German wine-growing region of Hessische Bergstrasse. In 2013, the building, which was built in 1904 by the Grand Duke of Hesse-Darmstadt and owned by the Hessian State Wine Estates, was bought by the married couple Jürgen Streit and Petra Greißl-Streit and the first Sekthaus on the Hessian Bergstrasse was founded. The property of the service entrepreneur Jürgen Streit also includes the Bensheim properties Hotel Halber Mond, the Wambolter Hof and the Renaissance castle in the Schöneberg district. In the beginning, the grapes were bought from friendly winegrowers. Today, 15 hectares of own vineyards are cultivated in the single vineyards Höllberg and Fürstenlager (Auerbach), Hahnberg, Kalkgasse, Paulus and Streichling (Bensheim), as well as Steingeröll (Zwingenberg). They are planted with Riesling, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay. The cellar masters Niko Brandner and Rachele Crosara are responsible for the development of the base wines and the sparkling wine production in the old cross-vaulted cellar that reaches deep into the Griesel mountain.
