The red grape variety is a new breed between Barbera x Croatina(Bonarda). Synonyms are Barbera x Bonarda 108, Incrocio Fregoni 108 and I. F. 108. The crossing was made in 1970 at the University of Piacenza in Italy by Mario Fregoni. The medium ripening vine produces alcohol-rich, colourful red wines, which are often used for blending with the mother variety Barbera. The variety is grown in small quantities in the regions of Abruzzo, Apulia, Emilia-Romagna, Calabria, Molise and Veneto. In 2016, a total of three hectares of vineyards were designated (Kym Anderson).

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
