Csaterberg

A vineyard in the municipality of Kohfidisch in the Eisenberg wine-growing region of Burgenland(Austria). It used to be owned by noble landlords and the church. In 1848, the Counts Erdödy divided the land among the farming population. The Csaterberg is the south-western spur of the Eisenberg and is divided into Kleincsater and Hochcsater by a valley incision. The soils and climate are very similar to the Eisenberg. The south-southeast facing vineyards with slopes of up to 21 degrees lie between 280 and 364 metres above sea level. The north and west sides are covered in coniferous forests, which provide natural protection against cold northerly winds. The vineyard covers 23 hectares of vines. The mild microclimate and the geological characteristics of opalite and serpentine with iron-rich clay soils are particularly suitable for white wines. The white wine varieties Welschriesling,Pinot Blanc, Müller-Thurgau and Riesling are cultivated on around two thirds of the area, while red wine varieties such as Blaufränkisch are grown on one third. The Jalits winery, for example, has shares in the vineyard.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
