The winery is located in the municipality of Oestrich-Winkel in the German wine-growing region of Rheingau. The history of the traditional family goes back to the 13th century. The foundation stone for today's business was laid in 1773 by Philipp Anton Allendorf. In 1955, the vineyards covered just 1.5 hectares. Today, with around 70 hectares, it is the largest family-run winegrowing business in the Rheingau. Since 2015, the restaurant "Brentanohaus", built in 1751 in the centre of Winkel, has been managed, where Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) and Jacob (1785-1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786-1859) were guests.

The winery is run by Ulrich Allendorf and his sister Christine Schönleber. Josef Schönleber (brother-in-law of the owner) is the manager and Max Schönleber is the cellar master. The vineyards are located in the single vineyard sites Hinterkirch and Höllenberg(Assmannshausen), Berg Roseneck, Berg Rottland (Rüdesheim), as well as Dachsberg, Hasensprung and Jesuitengarten (Winkel). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer, as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
