Generally used attribute for all grape varieties from which white wine is made. All these grapes are usually referred to as "white" or white wine varieties, although in many cases the berries are not white, but can be light green, green, yellow, golden, brownish, light red or even red in colour. This is because red wine can only be made from blue to black grapes, whereby these pigments are contained in the berry skins and the flesh only plays a minor role. See also under the keywords blanc de blancs (white wine made from white grapes), blanc de noirs (white wine made from dark grapes), blue, red and black as well as colour.
