The red grape variety originates from Georgia. Synonyms are Ogureshuli, Okhureshuli, Okourechouli, Okuresculi, Okurreshuli, Okureshuri, Usachelouri and Usakhelauri. According to genetic and morphological analyses, it resembles wild vines from this region. However, the parentage is unknown. The late-ripening vine produces colourful, velvety red wines with rose tones, which are often vinified sweet. It is named after a place in the Ratscha-Letschchumi region, where it is also cultivated on a small scale. In 2016, ten hectares of vineyards were designated (Kym Anderson statistics).
