The white grape variety originates from Hungary; the name derives from the peninsula in Lake Balaton (Plattensee). Synonyms are Diana, Diána Szölö, Regenyei Sárfehér, Sárga Füge, Somlauer (reference to the Somló area north of Lake Balaton), Tihany and Tihany Fehér. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2018, it originates from a presumably natural cross between Fehér Gohér (White Augster) x unknown partner. Nothing is known about a possible genetic relationship to the red variety Tihanyi Kék. According to the ampelographer Hermann Goethe (1837-1911), it originates from the Syrmia region, the former settlement area of the Danube Swabians (today parts in the Vojvodina region of Serbia and Slavonia in Croatia). No populations were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
