Sauvignon Rytos

The white grape variety (breeding number UD-55.100) is an interspecific new variety between Sauvignon Blanc x Bianca. It contains genes from Vitis berlandieri, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in Italy in 2002 by grower Simone Diego Castellarin, Guido Cipriani and Gabriele Di Gaspero. The same parents also produced the Sauvignon Nepis variety.

Characteristics

The medium-ripening vine is resistant to downy mildew (high) and powdery mildew (moderate) as well as frost down to minus 23 °Celsius, but is sensitive to botrytis (medium). It produces fresh, fruity white wines with flavours of gooseberry, citrus fruit, green apple and a slight grassy note.
