The white grape variety is a new breeding between Welschriesling x Muscat d'Hamburg. The parentage was only determined in 2013 by DNA analysis, because the breeding list stated "open-pollinated seedling of Welschriesling". However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see under molecular genetics). The name means "Serbian". The cross was made at the Odobesti Research Station by the breeders Gh. Popescu, M. Oslobeanu and I. Poenaru. It is an all-female grape variety, so it depends on cross-pollination. It was a crossing partner in the new variety Golia (2). The late-maturing vine is resistant to frost and drought, as well as powdery mildew and botrytis. It produces wines with high acidity and a grapey aroma. The variety is cultivated in eastern Romania. In 2016, 266 hectares of vineyards were reported (Kym Anderson statistics).
