There are two grape varieties of this name:
The red grape variety (breeding no. Pirovano 1-37) is an interspecific new breeding between Castel 156-12 (Mazuelo x Vitis rupestris) x Rupestris du Lot. It contains genes from Vitis riparia, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in 1913 at the research centre in Rome by the Italian breeder Alberto Piròvano (1884-1973). It is mainly used as a rootstock. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
The white grape variety is a new breeding between Șarbă x Sauvignon Blanc. The crossing was done in Romania by the breeders D. Danulescu, Gh. Calistru and D. Damian. In 2016, 0.1 hectares of vineyard were designated (Kym Anderson).
